How to Measure for Harris Tweed Roman Blinds

Measuring for made-to-measure Harris Tweed Roman Blinds

Getting accurate measurements is important for a well-fitting Roman blind, but it doesn’t need to be complicated. First decide whether your blind will sit inside the window recess or outside the recess, then follow the appropriate measuring guide below.

Please measure in centimetres (cm) using a metal tape measure where possible. Measure each window individually, even if they appear to be the same size.

If you’re unsure about anything, just get in touch — I’m happy to help before you place your order.

Inside Recess

Measure the width of the recess in three places — at the top, middle and bottom — and give me the smallest measurement.

Then measure the drop in three places — left, centre and right — from the top of the recess to the sill, and give me the smallest measurement.

Please give me the actual recess measurements. I will make the necessary allowance to ensure your Roman blind fits comfortably inside the recess.

Outside Recess

Measure the finished width you would like the blind to be, including how far you would like it to extend beyond each side of the window.

Then measure from the top of where you would like the blind to start down to where you would like it to finish.

Make sure your measurements include the whole area you want the Roman blind to cover.

Before measuring, check whether there are any window handles, tiles, protruding sills or other fittings that could obstruct the Roman blind, particularly if it will be fitted inside the recess. If you’re unsure whether an inside or outside recess fitting would work best, just send me a photo of your window and I’ll be happy to advise.
